Understanding how the NDIS supports your journey to independence
If you’re new to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the different funding categories can feel confusing at first. But once you understand how they work, you’ll see how each one is designed to help you live more independently and confidently.
At ProCare Solution, we break it down in a way that’s easy to understand—so you can make the most of your NDIS plan and funding.

The 3 Main NDIS Support Categories
Every NDIS plan is made up of three core support categories: Core, Capital, and Capacity Building. Each category funds different types of support to help you meet your unique goals.
1. Core Supports
These are the everyday supports that help you complete daily living tasks and participate in your community.
Examples of Core Supports include:
Help with showering, dressing, or eating
Transport to appointments or community events
Low-cost assistive products (e.g. continence aids, meal prep tools)
Support for social and community participation
These supports are flexible, meaning you can often use funding within this category across different services, based on your needs.
2. Capital Supports
Capital Supports help pay for assistive technology or home modifications that you may need long-term. These supports require quotes and approval from the NDIS.
Examples include:
Wheelchairs, walkers, or communication devices
Vehicle modifications
Home renovations for accessibility (e.g. ramps, railings, accessible bathrooms)
3. Capacity Building Supports
This category is all about building your skills and independence. It funds things that help you reach personal development, health, or employment goals.
Examples include:
Support coordination
Occupational therapy, speech therapy, or psychological services
Employment-related supports
Life skills training and personal development
Improved relationships, daily living, or health and wellbeing
At ProCare Solution, we work with participants to align each funded category with their short- and long-term goals—whether that’s living more independently, accessing new opportunities, or building confidence in daily life.
